Covid-19 brought another Brazilian casualty to Ultimate events. Brazilian Vivi Araujo tested positive for the coronavirus and is out of the duel against compatriot Jennifer Maia. The fight would take place at UFC Holm x Aldana, scheduled for August 1, yet to be defined. For Vivi’s position, the event moved quickly and summoned the Scottish Joanne Calderwood to face the Paraná.
Calderwood is third in the women’s flyweight ranking and has 14 wins and four losses. In her last performance, the Scot defeated Andrea Lee, in a split decision by the judges, at UFC 242 in September 2019.
On the other hand, sixth in the standings, Jennifer Maia has a history of 17 wins, six losses, and a draw. The Brazilian climbs into the octagon to recover from the setback against Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 244 in November 2019.
UFC Holm vs. Aldana
The primary fight of UFC Holm x Aldana will be for the female bantamweight, where former champion Holly Holm faces Mexican Irene Aldana. The winner should have the chance to be the next challenger for Brazilian champion Amanda Nunes.
In addition to Jennifer, Brazil will have two more representatives on the card: Markus faces Eric Spicely, while Vicente Luque fights with Randy Brown. Check out the attraction’s fight program below:
