Charismatic Paige VanZant’s husband, also a fighter, Austin Vanderford, joked about the news that his wife had signed on to join Bare Knuckle FC. An athlete at Bellator, the American’s partner, used good humor to address his partner’s future in boxing without gloves.
“So, now, will I be the handsome one in the relationship?” Wrote Vanderford.
Paige rocked the MMA world on Wednesday noon by announcing his transfer to the organization chaired by David Feldman. After not having her contract renewed with the UFC, the American rejected a proposal from Bellator and confirmed that her next commitments would be outside of mixed martial arts.
When he left Ultimate, after the inevitable defeat to Amanda Ribas, at UFC 251, much was speculated about a possible transfer of VanZant to Bellator. The possibility was considered given the excellent relationship that the athlete has with the company’s president, Scott Coker, and that her husband is already part of the organization’s combat corps.
According to ‘MMA Fighting,’ Coker’s proposal did not please Paige, who continued to seek more striking values to keep fighting.
In a live broadcast late last Wednesday afternoon, Feldman, together with Paige, confirmed that the fighter should debut in the modality in early November.
At the age of 26, VanZant left Ultimate with nine fights contested, winning in five and losing four. In her professional MMA record, the American has eight victories and five.
